I didn't mention Rivero because I figured he wasn't really considered a SS anymore. I don't know enough about him to know for sure, but the Phillies barely played him there at all, and the Nats seem to have put him mostly at 3B this year. He might be nothing more than a guy to provide organizational depth, which those of us who pay attention mostly to the big league club probably don't appreciate enough.

I'd love to see Walters play some in September, especially if, you know, the Nats have sealed up the division. Otherwise he might not get the chance, they might want to bring up some guys they have more confidence in for today if that race is still going strong.

I'm surprised the team isn't/didn't go after Mike Fontenot after his release from PHI; Hit .289/.343/.340 this year in limited playing time. Not awesome, but not awful either.

Clearly the off-season waiver pickup of Carlos Rivero has been useless; he's on the 40-man but hasn't gotten the call. You didn't even mention him in your review of MI candidates two posts ago. Maybe its because he's listed as a 3B: my bad on that; i thought he was a MI candidate. 6'3" 215; yeah he's no middle infielder. Why is he still on the roster? If Zimmerman goes down we're certainly not using Rivero; Lombardozzi, DeRosa covering for him ably. Even Tracy has gotten innings at 3B.

I think Walters is in line for a Sept 1 call up if we get any more MI injuries. That's what I'd do; he's hitting well enough in AA/AAA and could provide pennant race cover.
