		<description>I think the Nats were way too quick to pull the trigger on Patterson.  If you read between the lines it looks like he got caught in the middle of a power struggle between Acta and Bowden and Jimbo won.  Patterson&#039;s velocity was down, but he has been through this before.  He had Tommy John surgery in May, 2000 and didn&#039;t pitch in a game again until May, 2001.  It took about 3 months for him to regain his arm strength and velocity and become an effective pitcher again.  There is no reason to think that wouldn&#039;t happen again.  They said they wanted to give some of their younger pitchers a try, but my money is on the power struggle.  It&#039;s a real shame that Patterson got caught in the middle.  The Nats are likely to regret this one, unless they can someehow get Patterson to sign a minor league contract.  I&#039;ll bet he could be back in the rotation after a month to 6 weeks at AAA.</description>
